CC Notes – Monday, August 16th, 2010

The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners met tonight for the regular monthly business meeting.  While I am not officially your 4th District Commissioner until September 1st, 2010, I attended the meeting to get a head start on my service as your Commissioner.

A plaque was presented to outgoing Commissioner, Lynn Tollett, for 20 years of service on the Commission.  Returning Commissioner Nancy Hyder received a 20 year plaque as well.  County Mayor Brock Hill was presented a plaque with a proclamation by the Board of Commission honoring him for his 16 years of service as Mayor.

A resolution concerning the ambulance service was tabled, and one concerning appointments to the Cumberland County Railroad Authority was postponed until next month.  A Wheel Tax discussion was on the agenda, but the Commissioners decided to put that issue off for now.

The Commission passed a motion to pay the Cumberland County Humane Society $100 per animal accepted while the CountyMayor and City work out a contract concerning how to handle the issue long term.  The county attorney mentioned that the Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the County in the SmithMountain lawsuit.  I suppose that is a matter of perspective.  There is a 60 day window for an application to appeal to be filed.

After comments by some of the outgoing Commissioners, the meeting was adjourned.  This was the last meeting before the newly elected members take their seats.
