County Mayor’s Notes – September 26th, 2022County Clerk’s Office Closed

A water leak led to the discovery of major structural damage in the large courtroom of the old courthouse downtown.  An inspection by a structural engineering firm found at least two of the large oak roof trusses have significant damage, rendering the original 1905 section of the building dangerous and resulting in the need to close that section to the public.  The three doors to that section (Main Street, and the two on each side) will be closed until further notice.

This also means the County Clerk’s offices must be closed as well.  This includes marriage and business license, tag renewal, and auto dealer services.  We are actively working to find a way to safely reopen operations as quickly as possible and will provide updates as soon as a resolution is determined.

My office, the Register of Deeds, Veterans Services, Human Resources, and Finance will operate normally.

This is a fluid situation.  I will keep you updated as the situation changes.

Thank you for being part of the solution and thank you for the opportunity to serve as your County Mayor.  If you are interested in hearing my thoughts and views on news, events, and activities in Cumberland County, please subscribe to my newsletter, and follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Thank you.
