County Mayor’s Notes – November 4th, 2020

First Responders Month
James Mayberry, Mayor of the City of Crossville, and Allen Foster, Mayor of Cumberland County, do hereby proclaim the month of November 2020 in Crossville and Cumberland County First Responders Month, and we encourage all citizens to show appreciation and gratitude to all of our first responders for their selfless and tireless dedication to our community!

Free Flu Shots
Don’t forget you can get your free flu shot Tuesday – Thursday from 10 AM until 4 PM at the Senior Center located 1460 South Main Street.

COVID-19 Update (difference from previous day)
The number of results for the previous five days has been very low.  Today, we only had 114 results, yesterday 8.  More tests have been performed than that, but I’m not sure what is happening with the result data.

The number of active cases has increased, and our positivity rate is growing.  Please remember to wear a mask when appropriate, social distance, wash your hands, and follow the guidelines provided by Governor Lee and the CDC.  Be smart and avoid places you feel are unsafe.

The following are the numbers from the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) for Cumberland County as of 2:00 PM today. The change from the prior day, not my prior newsletter, is in parenthesis.

171 active cases (+2)
1,564 inactive/recovered (+26)
29 deaths officially reported (+1)
1,764 positive cases (+29)
79 cumulative hospitalizations (+2)
28,365 negative tests (+93)
12.23% positivity rate – 7-day average
88.66% Inactive/Recovered
5.85% cumulative positivity rate (positive cases / positive cases + negative tests)
2.91% of residents have tested positive
0.28% of residents have active cases

These numbers are intended to be a brief summary of the information provided by the Tennessee Department of Health. More detailed information can be found at the online dashboard: https://www.tn.gov/health/cedep/ncov.html

A new dashboard has been released for each county.  You can now view the Cumberland County COVID-19 dashboard here:

https://covid19.tn.gov/data/dashboards/?County=Cumberland

The dashboard seems to be the last data that is updated so it can lag for several hours behind the 2:00 PM daily data release.

School level COVID-19 data is now available online.  Click this link to see the information available for Cumberland County:

Health Department Testing and Face Coverings
Masks/face coverings can help to slow the spread by slowing or stopping the droplets that carry the virus.  Free cloth masks are available upon request at the Health Department for those that want one. Stop by Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm to pick one up for each individual in your household.

The local Health Department (1503 South Main Street) is conducting drive through testing, free of charge, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.   No doctor’s order is required, and no appointment is necessary. Anyone can be tested regardless of symptoms.

Thank you for being part of the solution and thank you for the opportunity to serve as your County Mayor.  If you are interested in hearing my thoughts and views on news, events, and activities in Cumberland County, please subscribe to my newsletter, and follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Thank you,
