CC Notes – February 16th 2016

All were present for the February regular monthly meeting of the Cumberland County Commission.  The night’s agenda was short with only five resolutions up for discussion.

Resolutions
The first resolution of the evening was to extend the Cumberland County Red Cross Lease and Agreement through January 20, 2017.  The resolution passed unanimously.

Next, a budget amendment of $3,000 for the General Purpose School Fund was addressed.  The money is for the CCHS cheerleading squad to help them offset recent expenses from competing in a national competition.  The money was approved unanimously, and the squad placed second in the competition!

A BOE budget amendment for $10,611.30 for the Central Cafeteria Fund Budget was next.  Additional funds were received from the USDA to help offset storage and distribution costs.  The resolution allowing the BOE to accept the funds was unanimously passed.

Various donations have been made by organizations and private citizens to help in the operation of the Cumberland County Animal Shelter.  A resolution for $2,280 was approved unanimously to accept these funds.

The final resolution of the evening was for the Sheriff’s Department Jail/Juvenile Services in the amount of $4,000.  After a recent inspection, repairs were required at the facility.   The resolution to move these funds within the Sheriff’s budget was unanimously approved.

Financial Report
Property tax collections year to date are at 59.1% of budget, which the same as at this point last year.  The Hotel/Motel tax is still strong with approximately $449,000 collected year to date.  That is 58.4% of the $770,000 budgeted.  Ambulance collections are still down with only $1.5 million collected against a $3.3 million budget.  Prisoner boarding is at 62% of the $500,000 budget with a total of $309,764.  Local Option Sales Tax collections for the BOE continue to be strong with year to date collections at approximately $4.4 million against a budgeted amount of $8.3 million.  That total is ahead of budget by approximately $221,000.
