Education has always been a priority of mine. That is why I began my elected service on the Board of Education back in 2002. I truly believe that education is the key to ending generational poverty and is a major factor in the prosperity of a community.
I worked closely with the Board of Education to help provide the funding for a new school at Crab Orchard, extensive renovations at CCHS, a new roof on South Cumberland Elementary School, books, and computers – just to name a few.
I believe every child deserves a safe, comfortable environment for learning. I worked closely with the Board of Education to try to provide a safe environment by supporting funding for the SROs in our elementary schools. I support expanding the program, as well as the purchase of innovative safety devices that can help add protection for our schools and safety for our students and employees.
As a Commissioner, I worked to improve the relationship between the County Commission and the Board of Education. A relationship of mistrust has moved toward an environment of cooperation. As your Mayor, I will continue to emphasize the importance of education and make it a priority.
