Cumberland County Commission Meeting
The March 2025 meeting of the Cumberland County Commission was held with all in attendance.

The Stone Memorial Lady Panther Middle School basketball team was recognized for winning the state tournament. They beat Alcoa 53 to 38 in the championship game in Murfreesboro, TN. This achievement is even more meaningful as this is the first basketball state championship in Cumberland County history!
The team is coached by Ivy Mayberry and assistant coach Addy Wilson. The players are Taylor Amos (8th, Homestead), Jadisyn Ashburn (6th, Stone), Chloe Brundage (6th, Pineview), Lexi Clark (8th, Homestead), Claire Dukes (6th, Stone), Makenzie Kington (7th, Stone), Anslee May (6th, Homestead), Callyn Myers (7th, Stone), Shae Neal (6th, Crab Orchard), Kori Newcome (6th, Homestead), Kinley O’Neal (6th, Crab Orchard), Keira Peterson (7th, Homestead), Reagan Pugh (8th, Crab Orchard), Emma Richard (8th, Homestead), Mady Spriggs (8th, Stone), Khloe Stover (6th, Stone), Leighton Whiting (7th, Homestead), Baylor Wilson (6th, Stone), Ava Wyatt (7th, Homestead), and Bella Wyatt (8th, Homestead).

Resolutions
The following resolutions were considered by the Cumberland County Commission. The sponsor of the resolution is in parenthesis. Detailed information for each resolution can be found here in the link “2025-03-17 — County Commission Monthly Meeting Agenda”.
RESOLUTION 03-2025-1 – TO APPOINT ONE (1) JUDICIAL COMMISSIONER FOR CUMBERLAND COUNTY, TENNESSEE (GIBSON). Michaela Smith was recommended by Judge Amanda Worley and Judicial Commissioner Director Jennifer Phillips-Cross, for a six-month term as a Judicial Commissioner. The resolution was approved unanimously.
RESOLUTION 03-2025-2 – TO APPROVE UPDATING THE CURRENT CUMBERLAND COUNTY DEBT POLICY (LOWE). The county debt policy was revised for the first time since being adopted on November 21, 2011, to add language concerning school debt. The entire policy can be found in the links to the agenda. The resolution was approved 18-0.

- RESOLUTION 03-2025-7 – ALLOCATING FUNDING FOR REPAIRS TO THE FORMER COURTHOUSE (GIBSON).
- RESOLUTION 03-2025-8 – GENERAL PURPOSE SCHOOL FUND, BUDGET AMENDMENT, SUPPLIES AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT TRAVEL (BALDWIN).
- RESOLUTION 03-2025-9 – GENERAL PROGRAM SCHOOL FUND, BUDGET AMENDMENT, TISA FUNDS (BALDWIN).
- RESOLUTION 03-2025-10 – FEDERAL PROGRAM SCHOOL FUND, BUDGET AMENDMENT, ATSI 24 ORIGINAL BUDGET (BALDWIN).
Financial Update
The Cumberland County Codes Department issued 34 building permits, 32 general mechanical permits, and 28 general plumbing permits in February 2025. A total of $39,806 in fees were collected.
The EMS department collected $384,936 this month for a year-to-date total of $2,816,836 which is $9,936 above monthly projections, and $183,160 below annual projections. To make the annual budget of $4.5 million, monthly collections need to average $375,000.
February sales tax collections (for cash register receipts two months prior) for the BOE for this fiscal year came in at $1,575,350 which was $36,202 above projections. Year to date, collections are $226,731 above projections. Property tax collections were 93.02 percent compared to 95.52 percent in the prior year. Hotel/Motel tax collections are $726,624, which is 58.07 percent of the annual $1,251,275. With six months of revenue paid, prisoner boarding collections are $280,399 of a $386,952 annual budget.
